The Primary department covers children in Key Stage 1 (ages 5 - 7) and Key Stage 2 (ages 7 - 10).
Special emphasis is placed on English and Mathematics, following the Literacy and Numeracy Strategies closely. However the curriculum also includes Science, Geography, History, Art and Design, Music, Physical Education, Information and Communication Technology and Personal, Social and Health Education.
Spanish and Humanities are also taught, following the programmes of study stipulated by the Spanish Ministry of Education.
In general, Primary children work mainly with one class teacher, although certain subjects, such as Music and P.E. are often studied with specialist teachers.
Some subjects, such as English and Maths, are taught every day. Others, such as Geography and History are taught using a cross curricular topic-based approach. This approach promotes a variety of skills and offers scope for the development of many different concepts. It is also an approach which harnesses the natural curiosity of children, and heightens their enjoyment of the learning process.
Towards the end of the Primary phase, in Year 6, the children take Standard Achievement Tests (SATs) in the two core subjects of English and Mathematics. These tests are sent to Britain for marking. EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES |
